Melita First Division Match 8

Nadur Youngsters FC - 5 vs  Ghajnsielem - 0

vsGhajnsielem_R2_11_12Nadur Youngsters produced another fine performance and registered a large win over Ghajnsielem in their match from the eighth day of the championship. Nadur were the better side throughout the ninety minutes but Ghajnsielem were well deployed and made it very difficult for the Youngsters to open the score. Nadur took advantage as Ghajnsielem were reduced to ten players for the last half hour of play and scored all the five goals of the match. For this match Nadur had Charles Mercieca missing due to suspension but fielded their latest signing Alex Simoncic (ex-Ghajnsielem) who was also making a return with the club. On the other hand the Blacks were without Riovellino Petriaggi who was released and Patrick Camilleri due to a suspension. Josef Xerri (ex-Xewkija T) made his debut for the Blacks.

Ghajsielem seemed well organized to protect their area from the early stages and Nadur found it extremely difficult to convert their territorial supremacy into good scoring opportunities so that their best chances through Anthony Portelli and Milos Stojanovic missed the target while a free kick by Claudio Antunes on 32 minutes was cleared with difficulty in corner by Ghajnsielem's defense.

The Youngsters operated some tactical changes for the second period and their strikers were often in a better position to conclude at goal. Ghajnsielem's goalie Joseph Grech was called to make good saves on more than one occasion following attempts by Claudio Antunes and Anthony Portelli. On 58 minutes Ghajnsielem were reduced to ten players when the referee noted a foul by Manwel Cordina on Milos Stojanovic off the ball Ghajnsielem's player was dismissed. Nadur did not take long to take full advantage of their extra player on the field and opened the score on 72 minutes through a low drive by Charles Hili after exchanging the ball with Claudio Antunes. Minutes later Nadur were again dangerous through efforts by Anthony Portelli and Claudio Antunes while Nadur's goalie Victor Agius had to make a good intervention at the edge of the area to clear the danger before Joseph Attard could conclude towards goal. Nadur doubled the score on 79 minutes through an excellent header by Claudio Antunes following a cross by Anthony Portelli. One minute later Alex Simoncic made it 3-0 with a fine strike from the edge of the area after receiving from substitute Joseph Grima and on 82 minutes Saviour Attard increased the score with a header from a corner action. Nadur's skipper Anthony Portelli sealed the issue with a fifth goal that arrived on the stroke of time with the ball hitting the post before crossing the line.
