Nadur Youngsters and S. K. Victoria Wanderers featured in another 0-0, in what I might say was a disappointed match. Both teams needed all the points at stake for obvious reasons, but both failed to produce the killing touch. While the Citizens opted to fill the midfield, Nadur were trying to catch them with long balls from the defence towards their front men, a department in which the reigning champions have failed this season.

The Youngsters started the match with a slight wind blowing behind their back and had more of the ball during the first half. An action between B. Brajovic and J. Buttigieg ended with the latter’s cross shot going wide. The Wanderers had a try by I. Adesina going wide. The same player was again in action when he saw his nice try being deflected away by S. Sultana’s leg. Nadur were pressing without impressing and the Blues were operating with counter attacks. In one of these, J. Vella found R. Williams unmarked but the striker hit high. Simoncic fed C. Attard, only to hit wide. A. Simoncic saw M. Mercieca making a good save to clear his angled free kick. The best chance of this half came from the Blues, when A. Adesina found J. Vella with space enough to control well and lob the ball out of reach of Sultana, but M. Portelli was there to clear his lines in extremis. Just before half time, Sultana again saved his side with a fine save following a well taken free kick by I. Adesina.

The Wanderers were dangerous at the start of the second half when I. Adesina took a bad clearance by the Youngsters defence and M. Portelli again was there to clear his lines. A cordial action between J. Refalo and A. Adesina saw the latter’s angled shot ending just wide. Mercieca was called to make a difficult save following a free kick by A. Simoncic. M. Portelli crosses from the right and S. Muscat shot was deflected into a corner. I. Adesina tried his luck from long distance but his aim was far from goal. Another free kick by Simoncic created havoc in the Blues area when Mercieca saved without holding the ball which was cleared with difficulty. J. Portelli Said hit wide from just outside the area following a cross by Brajovic. The Youngsters player-Coach, Simoncic, had another free kick that went inches high. Substitute S. Gatt cross into the area was not intercepted by Sultana but S. Attard was on hand to clear before J. Vella could connect. Vella was again denied by J. Meilak, who easily blocked his shot.
