Youngsters Defeated Again

Nadur Youngsters were ones again defeated by Għajnsielem, the 3rd time this season in League competition.   In an interesting match, both side were all out to grab all 3 points at stake.  Nadur were probable the best side during the first half, but Għajnsielem responded well in the second and scored their goals in crucial time.

Nadur won the first corner of the match and an attempt by Simoncic ended just above the crossbar.  The Whites kept the pressure on for the first 15 minutes and the Blacks defense was clearing with some difficulty.  Għajnsielem tried to push forward and a shot by F. Galea ended well over the bar.  A well taken free kick by b. Meilak was headed towards goal by S. Goncalves but the Youngsters defence cleared just in time.  Another Simoncic free kick was saved by J. Grech in the Blacks goal.  A nice action between A. Viana and S. Goncalves ended with a tremendous shot by B. Meilak ending wide.  Għajnsielem had a fast counter with J. Attard beating the offside trap only to be brought down by goalie Sultana just outside the box.  Sultana was lucky to get only the yellow card for this infridgement. B. Meilak shot wide from the resulting free kick.  The same player had another shot following a corner by J. Attard that ended wide.  The last danger of the first half came following a cross by B. Brajovic and A. Portelli’s overhead kick went wide.  
 
The second half was more or less of the same pattern of the first, and again the first danger came from Nadur.  A. Portelli’s cross found J. Portelli Said in a good position, and the latter’s shot beat Grech only to hit the crossbar and flew to safety.  Another fast break by Għajnsielem and A. Viana should have done better when he came face to face with Sultana, but J. Meilak cleared in time.  On the 60th minute, Brian Meilak took a clearance from the Youngsters defence, had time enough to control and lashes a tremendous shot that gave Sultana no chance to open the score for Għajnsielem.  There was little reaction from Nadur, and Għajnsielem didnt have to worry too much about controlling their slight advantage.  A. Simoncic ones again tried his luck with a low taken free kick that ended wide.  A. Viana hit the crossbar for the Blacks following an inviting pass from J. Attard.  Few minutes from time, Sultana denied Viana with a fine save.  On the 90th minute, Għajnsielem made sure of the 3 points when a clearance by M. Portelli hit Joseph Attard and finished into the back of the net.  A very lucky goal that sealed the issue.   

Nadur kept their 3rd from bottom position with 5 games remaining, definitely still in the danger area.
