Nadur Youngsters suffered another 4-1 defeat at the hands of league leaders Victoria Hotspurs last Sunday. The whites were severely punished for loosing a handful of golden opportunities in front of goal. Charles Hili’s red card continued to make things worse for the Nadur, who now have only one game left against S.K.V.W for the end of the season.
Missed opportunities Playing the match with only pride at stake, Nadur came out aggressive and had a great opportunity to punish the reds early in the match when an effort by Saviour Attard hit the bar. From the resulting rebound Noel Borg was right in time to neutralize Josef Butti;ie;’s shot. Nadur had the chance to pay for this missed chance after ten minutes when Charles Hili flicked on towards an unmarked Anthony Portelli in the small box. But the captain’s poor attempt was easy prey for Victoria’s goalie.
Youngsters Punished Just as with the game against Għajnsielem , Nadur were left to rue their missed opportunities on the half hour mark , when an unlucky deflection by Peter Butti;ie; completely surprised Sultana and ended in the net. Nadur’s ambition to get something from the match were severely damaged just before the break when Charles Hili was sent off following two fouls in quick succession on John Paul Grima.
One Way Traffic It was only one-way traffic in the second half as the reds capitalized on their one man superiority. Martin Hanus scored from the spot few minutes after the break after Uchenna Anyanwu was fouled in the area by Mercieca. The Czech striker than released Eric Nkwanko who lobber over Sultana and added a third after 50 minutes of play. On the hour mark, substitute Ruben Mercieca managed to enter the nadur area and fired a low cross that was deflected by Jonathan Said in his own net. Josef Buttigieg grabbed a consolation goal for the Whites after 70 minutes. Victoria Hotpurs need only a draw from this Sunday’s encounter with Għajnsielem to wrap up the 11th title in their history. Nadur will have to look on to finish the season on a positive note and start the next one on a much higher one.
