Melita First Division League - Matchday 5 Xewkija Tigers - 0 vs Nadur Youngsters - 2 - by Saviour Attard
Following their 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence Spurs, Nadur were determined to get another win and they got off to a flying start when Milos Stojanovic headed home a cross by Joseph Portelli after 18 minutes of play. On the half-hour mark things went worse for Xewkija as their Bulgarian striker Kirin Dyakov was sent off for what appeared to be a harsh second yellow card. Xewkija weren’t upbeat despite this inferiority and went very close few minutes before the break.Nadur’s rearguard failed to clear a free-kick by Josef Xerri and Mark Camilleri managed to hit a low drive that hit the foot of the post twice after bouncing with the keeper’s head. Sultana was quick in the second time and saved the ball on the line of goal. In the second half Milos Stojanovic missed a golden opportunity to double his team lead as he came one on one with the keeper but instead of concluding he decided to pass to Anthony Portelli but Josmar Vella recovered well and cleared the ball in corner. Joseph Grima who was making his debut with the whites had a low shot saved by Xuereb but finally the second goal arrived 20 minutes from time. Saviour Attard won a ball and passed to Milos Stojanovic and his pass was perfect to leave Joseph Portelli with the easiest of tasks to just tap the ball in an empty net. The win puts Nadur top of the standings on 10 points equal on points with Sannat Lions who cruised to a 5-1 win over S.K.V.W, Nadur’s next opponents on the 7th of November.
