Melita First Division League - Matchday 7

Nadur Youngsters - 3 vs Victoria Hotspurs - 0

 - by Saviour Attard

hotspurs_-_round_2Nadur Younsgters obtained a vital win yesterday against Victoria Hotspurs and went second in the table one point above Savina. Two late goals from Weslei De Oliveria and another one by Joseph Portelli in the first half meant that Sannat’s lead is now cut to six points and Nadur still have one game less than the Lions.

Following their 3-1 loss with Savina, the Whites were determined to get back to winning ways and they showed some great play yesterday especially in the first period of the match. The first chance fell on Joseph Portelli who saw his low shot cleared of the line by Michael Camilleri following a blunder by Victoria’s Goalie Mark Grima. Few minutes later Josef Buttigieg combined well with Weslei to find himself in front of goal but Grima made up for his early mistake with a fine block. Nadur had another golden opportunity after 17 minutes but Milos Stojanovic’s effort in the small box hit the crossbar.

Nadur opened the score on the 35th minute, when Weslei unmarked by head Joseph Portelli who placed the ball behind Grima with a low shot to give his team a vital lead lead before the break.

Victoria reacted well in the second half and managed to keep Nadur in their own half. They missed a great opportunity on the 70th minute mark when Khalin Ganchev received an inviting pass by Dylan Bellotti but his effort went high over the crossbar. They were left to rue this missed opportunity as Nadur managed to double their lead. Anthony Portelli released Weslei who lobbed the ball over Grima and into an empty net. Portelli was again the assist-man in injury time when the passed to the same Brazilian who settled the issue on 3-0.

Nadur will take on Ghajnsielem on the 5th Of December and then face League leaders Sannat Lions a week later.
