Ghajnsielem FC - 1 vs Nadur youngsters - 0

ajnsilem_-_Round2

A goal scored in the first minute of stoppage time by Ferdinando Apap gave Nadur an undeserved loss against Ghajnsielem on Sunday. The game was heading for a draw but seconds before the final whistle Apap pounced on a bad clearance from Nadur’s rearguard and headed into an empty net.

The loss meant that Nadut now trail Sannat Lions by six points with the same amount of games. Nadur gave a very good performance but lacked that killer instinct in front of goal despite the few chances they had. In fact neither side had real chances of scoring but the game was still highly entertaining as each player on field battled for every inch at stake.

Kalenga Ndayi had a good chance for Ghajnsielem in the starting minutes as he was unmarked by Simoncic but Sultana came out brilliantly and blocked his run. On the other side, minutes before the break, Milos Stojanovic had a shot that was well saved by Ghajnsielem’s goalie.

In the second period Nadur pressed hard to find the net as a victory would have sent them only three points behind the league summit. The Whites had the best chance of the game when Wesley de Oliveria shot from a seemingly angled position but again Grech was well placed to deflect the ball in corner. The blacks were again dangerous on the 80th minute when Kalenga controlled a ball with his chest and fired a low shot that Sultana turned into a corner with some difficulty. And than just before the final whistle came Ghajsielem’s winner. Simoncic dipped a ball into Nadur’s area and and Apap nodged in to head the ball home with an easy tap in.

Despite the loss Nadur have the chance to get back on track with a win this Sunday against Sannat Lions that will definitely take them back into the title race. Anthony Portelli will be back for the match following his suspension against the blacks. This means that for the first time this season, coach Frank Muscat will have all the squad at his availability if nothing crops up till Sunday.
