Nadur Youngsters - 6 vs S.K. Victoria Wanderers - 0 - by Saviour Attard Nadur Youngsters will contest the GFA Cup final against Sannat Lions after cruising to a 6-0 victory over SK Victoria Wanderers at the Gozo Stadium yesterday. Anthony Portelli scored a hat-trick for his team and Claudio Antunes was twice on the score sheet with Christian Debono scoring the other goal. It was a great performance by all the team that will be rewarded by a re-match against league Champions Sannat Lions. Nadur went into the match with three regular players missing. Jeffrey Meilak and Joseph Portelli were both sidelined due to injury whilst Josef Buttigieg missed the match due to suspension. The Youngsters were well aware of the importance of the game and took only few minutes to take the lead. Claudio Antunes launched Anthony Portelli who was fouled by Vella in the area. A penalty was awarded which the same Portelli converted to send his team in front. The Wanderers reacted well and managed to create some very good opportunities of scoring but it was Nadur who struck again this time through a stunning goal by Antunes few minutes before the break. The Brazilian controlled a ball on the line of throw and unleashed a powerful shot that gave Vella no chance. It was a brilliant goal that highlights the great ability of this player. The second half of the game was completely dominated by the Whites who added a third goal after barely an hour of play. Portelli was again unleashed by an Antunes pass and in front of Vella made the score 3-0 with a low drive. The Wanderers were chasing shadows and five minutes later Debono scored Nadur’s fourth after a hash up by SK’s defence. Antunes was again on the score sheet on the 75th minute this time through a well taken free kick. Anthony Portelli then rounded of the victory as he added a sixth few minutes before the final whistle. The GFA Cup final will be played this Sunday at 4pm against Sannat that overcame Ghajnsielem 4-0. An appeal goes to the supporters to make it a must and come and support their team. It’s about time for the Whites to start adding some silverware to their great collection after nearly 4 seasons of abstinence. |
